    Woodpecker Mine Trail (Saturday 08-02-2008)

For the last two months we have been exploring some very cool areas with moderate challenges such as Dripping Spring, Dugas Rd, Tip Top and Smiley Rock . I feel its now time for some slightly accelerated difficulties...

Since the recent rain I have heard that the Woodpecker Trail has some moderate changes. The trail is rated somewhere 3.0 & 3.5 and requires some off road driving skill. If you are new to the 4x4 world then a spotter is a good choice to avoid a hangup. The trail requires some ground clearance and skid plates would be highly recommended.

We are heading out Saturday August 2nd at 8:30AM and meeting at the McDonald's/Shell Station off US 60 & Mountainbrook Dr (Click here for Map).

Candi_Medic1, this is your stomping ground so I know you and AZGoldenEagle will be there. Talk to Lee too, we haven't seen him in a while. Anyone else who is interested are welcome to come!

Click here for a full description of the Woodpecker.

As with any off road trail there is an inherent risk of vehicle damage and bodily injury. As always, play it safe and don't do anything you or your vehicle is not capable of doing. Other vehicles will be there to assist, but you are one who has to use your best judgment.

OK were in. Shad says he's game. Ill get ahold of Lee. Saturdays are tough for him, he is usually on call. Maybe he can take a day off.( thats why were usually out on sundays with him) Ill let you know about Lee. But we'll be there and I got 2 new guns to show ya Wink Went out there shootin a few weeks ago. After the last monsoon storm a week ago I took my libby out to goto denoon for a quickie after I got my new tires....The one huge wash just before you go around the corner to denoon....was running water...flooded bigger than heck. By now it should be all packed back down from the atv's tearing up the area.

Me, the Pirate Queen, and the pirate in training are going to try and make this run. No promises though on being a sure thing. Does anyone see any problems on my stock Ruby making this trail?

    Great Candy!

There is no question Coma that your rig can make it. Ruby, your locked f&r so the only thing you have to worry about it scraping.

     Ryan,

How do you plan on going in? I have a little suggestion...Big SmileMaybe go in via telegraph canyon again and do the upper ajax, that way those who havent been on any of the 3 can get to go on all 3. Kill 3 birds so to speak. Stick out tongue I thought telegraph was beautiful when we went through before.

That is a good idea, but time is the killer. If we have west siders come out and also need time for any mechanical problems, it will not leave enough daylight. Plus I would like to check out a few mines on the way. This trail is rich in minerals (amethyst) and would like to add that to the trail.

I was wondering if anyone would have an open seat for the woodpecker run. My truck isnt prepared yet but i would love the opportunity to watch and photograph.
