    03-10-08 Copperopolis Region

Let's see... I got a nice scratch at Martinez Cabin, then a happy little gash at Desoto, and now a some full blown scrapeage from Copperoplis. What's next? I guess next time I go somewhere with you guys I'm gonna roll the b!tch Hmm

Well thanks for showing me around JD... and it was good to see Steve and Drew again. And the weather was great. I'm not gonna go into a lot of detail since there's a blog on this trail already, but here's a quick rundown:

We aired down just outside Wickenburg and headed into the hills via the Buckskin trail. I've driven this road before all the way to Castle Hot Springs Rd, but for this trip we veered north to the Copperopolis area. We checked out a couple mines and viewed the little spot where the old townsite of Constellation supposedly was. The Copperpolis Mine had over a foot of bat crap in the smelly shaft.

The spot where the old Copperpolis townsite was didn't show much as far as remains go. That had to have been the spot... Right? Anyways, we eventually came to the now infamous spot. A huge boulder -probably around 1500lbs- had fallen onto the trail. I should have known I'd have problems after JD scraped his plated rockers a bit. My long wheelbase got the best of me... in the form of a "significant" tear on my passenger side. The door shuts fine but does have a different sound now. Heh. More battlescars (and a bruised ego). Well, after some digging, stacking, some pushing with the jeep, and finally using the hi-lift jack, we managed to roll the boulder off the trail and into the wash so the Grand Cherokee could get through safely.

We got through the tippy sections easily and also got to play in some water along the creek towards the end. Actually made pretty good time, considering boulder fiasco. Good trip!

    Bradshaw's grave... of course.

    Coppoeropolis Mine area

Inside the mine... notice all the bat crap (in the air too). Not fun.

Our first attempt with moving the "infamous" boulder

I forsee you tearing the bed off the back end of the Taco before rolling it! Stick out tongue If it makes you feel any better, I have about a 12" scrape down my side rocker panel and I have to replace part of my Hi-Lift jack mount because of that little boulder Tongue Tied we brushed up against. Yeah - I know, it doesn't make you feel any better. But as you said "more battlescars". And battlescars add character and are a story in their own right.

AzTacoma- Awesome write-up! Haha I especially like the “roll the b!tch” comment!

JD- It’s about time Ruby takes on a little battle scar! I was starting to think that your Jeep was invincible. And to think, I almost bought a Jeep emblem to put on my Taco as a good omen.
