    Front yoke U-Join

    Hey Chad,

I am sure you remember my strange noise that was coming from my Jeep. And after long inspection from me, you told me my front drive shaft was dragging... oops Hmm

Well after a new u-joint sheared on the 101 at 70mph I knew that something else was wrong. I removed the front drive shaft and after inspection discovered it was bent. Makes sense as to the problem with the joint huh.

I ordered a new drive shaft through my mechanic ($170 complete the DS joints). When going to install I had one hell of a time trying to figure out why the clip would not snap in on the one side of the yoke - remember I had this problem on the trail too.

Anyways, aside from a bent drive shave, the notch on one side of the yoke was missing which holds the joint in place. I guess there is one on each side.

A new front yoke and everything is a-ok.

One other thing, you were right about Desert Rat not installing a spacer in the yoke slip eliminator. I guess a piece of aluminum can would have saved my garage floor from the constant gear oil drip. The slack inside the unit caused the seal to fail prematurely.

Just thought I would give an update and thank you for the advise on the yoke slip.

    See you on the trail.

Ryan, I am glad you got that figured out. Most people don't know about the backlash adjustment when installing a SYE kit at the rear bearing. Most 4x4 shops slam these kits and go by "feel" when they install these as they do them alot. You still need to check the backlash at the yoke as this will cause just what happened to you. A bad seal and over time or a bad rear output yoke at the t-case. Glad to here you got it all fixed, Shad
