A spool locker is not a differential as it doesn't
differentiate torque between the tires. It locks both axles together so they
will always get power. Mostly for those who want to save money and trailer
their rig to the trail, but the bad side is tire drag and component stress. There
are two different spooling lockers available: A full Spool and a mini spool. The
full spool replaces the carrier which makes the carrier strong. A mini spool
does not replace the carrier and can be weak and have a tendency to break.
A Lincoln locker is nothing more than welding together the
parts inside a carrier to make it act like a spool. Most that have gone to this
extent have had nothing but problems.
In short, if you’re looking to get traction out of your
daily driver go with an Auburn E-Locker or ARB. Yeah they are expensive, but
you get what you pay for.
If you need to save money, I would recommend getting a cheap
lift, but I would not mess with the diffs.
