    Wickenburg Mountains ??

1st - Ryan, I believe it's you that I have to thank for the rapid response in sending me the "Guide to Arizona Backroads & 4-Wheel Drive Trails". Big Smile

I'm interested to see if anyone has done the Wickenburg Mountain trail?

I was reading that it ended at the Copperopolis townsite and mine. I have tried to reach this area from Castle Hot Springs road through Walker Gulch on my quad but have been thwarted by bad luck mechanically or by a second party running into trouble. The guide states that it is a MODERATE trail but has some fun / tricky areas on the route from Wickenburg. Constellation city,Bradshaws grave site, UFO mine, as well as Copperopolis townsite and mine are all intrigueing to me as I have spent many an hour riding the quad out by this area without ever getting to these places. I'd like to attempt this run with my stock Rubicon on either the weekend of June 16-17 or June 23-24. Anyone possibly interested in bouncing one of these days away? It would be nice to have some company and I'd enjoy meeting some of you other members off this site.

    Re: Wickenburg Mountains ??

I attempted that trail about a yr ago and never made it all the way due to getting a late start.  So I would love to make that trail.  However, I won't be able to the weekend of th 16th.  I may be able to make it the following weekend of the 23rd.  Sounds fun!!!

    Hey JD,

Yeah I sent the book, I hope you enjoy it, I know I have. Plus its hard to beat the price:) I hope one day to make it a New York Times best seller, but I doubt it.

Funny that you mention this trail. Brian and I are made some last minute plans yesterday to take this versus going to Woods Canyon.

If your our there this weekend look for my Jeep. We will be camping there until Sunday.

I was just coming on to talk with Brian about making a set date for this trail, but looks like I'm too late. What day and what time are the two of you leaving? And where are you meeting up to leave from?

Don't know if I can get out there this weekend. If so it would be Sunday as the wife just infomed me here at work that her parents are in town and staying the night and will be leaving Sunday morning. Sounds like a good reason to get up at O:dark:thirty and head to Wickenburg Saturday morning don't it.

Let's say Saturday 16 June 07 - meet about 6:00am? Head up to Wickenburg and do a little xplor'n. I'd like to maybe try and pick up a Geocache or 2 on the way back if thats alright. Where would you like to meet? I'm in the area of the 101 and T-Bird Ave.

I look forward to seeing your pics. Do you think that my stock Rubicon could make it up the backway to Crown King? I've had a couple of people say "YES" and a couple say "NO". What's your input on that subject?

IMO you can do the backroad to Crown King in your vehicle with no problemo.

If I'm available the 16th, I wouldn't mind tagging along.

I'm still not sure of the abilities of my Rubicon Embarrassedas I haven't really taken it out that much and played with the lockers. But I want to have others around in case of problems and that they may be able to enlighten me with some new insight.

I don't have a problem with that. I'd enjoy meeting the people that I converse with on the forums in person. You're more than welcome to come along. My wife and son will probably be riding with me and she said that she has a co-worker that wants to get out and about with us possibly on this trip. She and the boy gave me a set of rechargeable cobra 2-way radios (16 mile range / NOAA channel / voice activated / etc.) for my Father's Day present so when we go out with friends (she may do a little riding with him as he will probably be by himself) we can keep in touch. I haven't mounted my CB as of yet b'cuz I'm trying to decide Huh?if I want to get a smaller one for mounting in the Jeep.

Yeah AZTacoma you should come with!

Ruby Can, you should have no problems taking the back way to Crown King. With careful tire placement and taking it slow it should be a fairly easy trip.  You may scrape in a couple of places, but the Rubicon comes with good skid plates.

As for the Wickenburg Trail, we can meet at my house (I-17 and Dear Valley Rd) or at the McDonalds in Wickenburg. 6AM would be a good time to meet up at either place or if you have a better suggestion. Any comments AZTacoma?

My boss is coming along with his bone stock 06 Rubicon Unlimited. He has had it for some time, but has very little off road experience so it should be an exciting trip.

Let me know on the time and place. Also, click here for the photo album of the trip last weekend.

We'll probably meet you at the McDonalds in Wickenburg as Grand Ave. is just a couple of miles from my house and I can shoot up it quick and easy. We'll set a definite time when I get back in the middle (Wednesday) of next week. By the way, I received my rack today and I'll have to put it together and mount it when I get back as well.

Looks like a lot of fun by looking at the pics. So did you even take the road off towards Bradshaw's Grave or did you go up Buckhorn road past it and turn off in the desert there?

McD's sounds like a plan. My boss lives in Yarnell so he wont have far to travel either.

I have not downloaded my route, but if memory servers me, we turned off on to Buckhorn and camped near the Camp B mine trail. The next day we took the route back to Constellation Rd and took the trail west to the Copperopolis Mine. The old housing structures that we had seen along the way may have been the townsite, but I am not sure. I did not type the GPS Cords from the book, which I regret.

Ryan - Thanks for a great day out and about on the run from the Wickenburg Mountains to Lake Pleasent. The family and I had a great time. We look forward to other runs in the near future. The wife took alot of great pics and some digital video as well.

You're welcome. It was a fun trek through the desert and about the last chance we had before it became too hot.

Its that time of year to head for higher country.
