The most notable of off road trails in this region are located in the Sonoran Desert. The Sonoran Desert is a harsh, rugged subtropical region with the largest diversity of biological life found on the planet.
The Sonoran Desert includes 60
mammal species, 350 bird species, 20 amphibian species, 100 plus
reptile species, and more than 2000 native plants.
All biological life not only survive the harsh conditions of the Sonoran Desert, but they
actually thrive. Many have evolved to have specialized adaptations to
the desert climate. The uniqueness of this diversity
provides an unsurpassed off road driving experience that cannot be found anywhere else on the planet!

Being the Grand Canyon State, most
tourist and natives alike miss the beauty of the Arizona Strip or
North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The Arizona Strip is the northern
section of Arizona that is cut off geographically from the rest of
the state. It covers approximately 1 million acres of remote
plateaus, plains, mountains, cliffs, and canyons. It’s a strange
transition zone where the Mohave Desert, Great Basin, and Colorado
Plateau connect. And it is a spectacular place where all visitors
must respect the remote location, lack of water, and absence of
facilities. But for those willing to brave these challenges, it’s a
unique land with a startling array of plant, animal, geologic
resources that contrasts greatly from the low lying Sonoran Desert.

The purpose of Arizona Trailways is to provide a resource to people who wish to explore the biological diversity and history of Arizona while enjoying some of the world’s best off-road trails.
